At Yahoo!, our business, products, technology and operating footprint increasingly intersect with human rights issues around the world. We know that we, like other companies, have important obligations to the communities in which we operate.

Yahoo! is committed to leading in the efforts to protect and promote free expression and privacy on the Internet, so in 2008, we launched the Yahoo! Business & Human Rights Program. The BHRP integrates human rights issues into the way we make business decisions and promotes privacy and free expression through concrete actions.

The Business & Human Rights Program (BHRP) hosted the third event in its Change Your World series in Mexico City on September 12-13. Change Your World Mexico City (Cambia Tu Mundo) showcased women leaders across Latin America who are using technology, the Internet and social media platforms to support positive change in the world, with an emphasis on women’s leadership in governance and politics, human rights, media and journalism, entrepreneurship, indigenous rights, and user safety online.

The event was moderated by Claudia Calvin-Venero, Executive Director for the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations (COMEXI) and Founder of Mujeres Construyendo, the first platform for Spanish speaking bloggers in Latin America. The Summit featured a keynote speech from Catalina Botero, Special Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression, Organization of American States (OAS).
